- Thoughts - having thoughts about killing oneself
- Gestures - self-directed, potentially harmful behaviors which do not result in injury
- Parasuicides - self-inflicted harm in which a person's intent was something other than suicide
- Attempts - self-inflicted harm in which a person's intent was to kill him/herself but was unsuccessful in doing so.
- Completions - a suicide attempt which results in death
