BUPRENORPHINE - CONNECTICUT

Buprenorphine, the active ingredient in the FDA-approved medication Suboxone®, is an alternative to methadone for the treatment of opiate addiction.

Only private doctors and treatment programs with special certification are allowed to dispense buprenorphine. Each approved doctor can treat up to 100 patients at a time.

There are also a number of treatment programs in Connecticut that are allowed to dispense buprenorphine.

www.TreatmentMatch.org. This service is available 24/7, is completely confidential, and will link the patient to certified physicians with treatment availability.

People who can pay for the treatment themselves, or who have insurance that pays for it, can go to the SAMHSA website for a list of physicians who are authorized to prescribe buprenorphine.
NOTE from SAMHSA: “Because physicians certified to prescribe buprenorphine are limited, some physicians listed on the SAMHSA Locator may not be able to accept new patients at the time of your search. If you can’t find a doctor who is accepting new patients, check the site later, since new doctors are added weekly.”
