EDUCATION FOR HOMELESS CHILDREN
HOMELESS EDUCATION IN CONNECTICUT
Connecticut's Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program promotes continuity in education for school age children in unstable residences by advocating for schools to make exceptions to residency requirements for students whose residence is disrupted, allowing the student to continue attending his/her school of origin. Also, the child's school district must provide transportation to and from school of origin at the parents' or guardians' request. Eligible students include children in homeless shelters and domestic violence shelters; children living in motor vehicles; foster children in temporary placement; runaways; and others who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate night-time residence.
