EVEN START FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM

DESCRIPTION

Even Start is a family literacy initiative which targets low income, at-risk families to provide access to the training and support they need to create literate home environments and to enhance the academic achievement of their children. Program components include early childhood/school-age education for ages 0 through age 7, adult basic education, ESL and GED classes for parents, parent/child play groups, parenting education and support, and home visits to help families develop their own literacy-based family activities.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Families participating in Even Start must have a child under the age of 8 and have a parent lacking a high school diploma and/or basic reading skills or need English as a Second Language training.
