The following is summarized
from
State of Connecticut Judicial Branch: Common
Legal Terms.
WHAT IS PROBATION?
Probation is when a convicted
offender is sentenced to a term of
incarceration, but the sentencing judge suspends
the sentence. While the sentence is suspended
the offender is required to remain under the
supervision of a probation officer for a period
of time set by the judge.
In Connecticut, juvenile and adult
probation is the responsibility
of the State Judicial Branch through local
Superior Courts' probation offices.
