BREAST
AND CERVICAL CANCER EARLY DETECTION/WISEWOMAN
PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION
Free statewide screening program for early
detection of breast or cervical cancer.
Program is for uninsured or underinsured low
income women. Connecticut Department of Public
Health administers the program and the
screenings take place at contracted hospital
and health service provider sites.
The WISEWOMAN
(Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation for
Women Across the Nation) program provides
preventive health services to address heart
disease and stroke risk factors. Eligible
participants who receive services in the
Connecticut Breast and Cervical Cancer Early
Detection Program are also offered this
cardiovascular risk assessment, screening, and

In addition, Connecticut
Department of Public Health's initiative, "Stay
in the Game CT: Part 2 " campaign is trying to
increase awareness about preventing heart
disease and promote the importance of being
screened for heart disease risk factors. For

ELIGIBILITY
MAMMOGRAM: Women age 40+,
or under age 40 with symptoms and/or specific
risk factors;
CLINICAL BREAST EXAM AND PAP
TEST: Women ages 21-64
FOR BOTH SCREENINGS: Income
must be at or under 200% Federal Poverty Level;
Must have no insurance or insurance that does
not provide coverage for Pap tests or mammograms
or have a high insurance deductible
NOTE: Program sites will
determine eligibility, including risk assessment
SCREENING SITES
Screenings are done at contracted hospitals and
health service provider sites.
