CALL
BEFORE YOU DIG
The following is summarized
from the Connecticut Light & Power
website: www.cl-p.com/Home/Safety/CallBeforeDig.aspx
If you are a contractor working on
a site or a homeowner working around your own
home, be aware that digging can be dangerous if
you don't check first for underground wiring or
cable. Underground wires could be power,
telephone or cable television. Or there could be
other underground utilities such as natural gas
lines, water or sewers. If you are planning to
build anything on your property that involves
digging, which include home building projects
such as building a patio or deck, you need to
notify "Call Before You Dig, Inc" (www.cbyd.com/)
This statewide clearing house will contact
member utilities to come to the site and mark
where the underground utilities are located.
This will prevent you from finding them by
accident, which could lead to a serious accident
or injury. The number for Call Before You Dig in
Connecticut is (800) 922-4455. Connecticut law
requires you to call at least two full working
days, excluding weekends and holidays, before
digging.
