RECALLS
United States
government agencies may issue alerts regarding
product recalls when the product is defective or
may pose a danger to consumers. The following
agencies provide information on product recalls
at their websites:
CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY
COMMISSION
The Consumer Product Safety
Commission (CPSC) (http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prerel.html)
issues and enforces safety standards for
consumer products and obtains recalls of unsafe
products. CPSC’s website allows consumers to
search for current recalls by company, product
description, product type, general recall
categories, or monthly press releases.

Consumers can also register
complaints about products by filing a Consumer

FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION
The Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) enforces the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act
and provides regulation of consumer safety
standards in the areas of food, drugs, medical
devices, blood and blood products. Recalls and
safety alerts issued by the FDA in the past 60
days can be found at their website. Information
on reporting problems with FDA-regulated
products can also be accessed at the FDA

NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC
SAFETY ADMINISTRATION
The National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA) promotes road
safety and educates consumers on vehicle safety,
vehicle defects and recalls, and child safety
(car) seat defects and recalls. NHTSA’s Office
of Defects Investigation allows consumers to
search for motor vehicles or motor vehicle
equipment recalls from 1966 to present and child
safety seat recalls from 1991 to present. Online
forms to report safety-related defects with
motor vehicles or motor vehicle equipment are
available at NHTSA's website: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/
Consumers who wish to submit a Child Safety Seat
Registration Form

UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF
AGRICULTURE
The Food Safety and Inspection
Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of
Agriculture (USDA) (http://www.fsis.usda.gov/)
is responsible for the inspection and regulation
of eggs, meat, and poultry products.The FSIS
Recall Information Center
(http://www.fsis.usda.gov/Fsis_Recalls/index.asp)
has information on federal and state recall
cases and links to all state departments. of
agriculture and public health.
