SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES OF INMATES / COMMUNITY RE-ENTRY RESOURCES FOR EX-OFFENDERS

Several agencies in Connecticut assist, support and provide services to family members of inmates who are currently incarcerated in a Connecticut prison.  Services usually include helping family members cope with the various aspects of having their loved one incarcerated, providing supporting guidance, helping family members prepare for the inmate's release from prison, and providing transportation to and from the prisons.

The State of Connecticut Department of Corrections website, www.ct.gov/doc, has a section Information for Friends and Families which answers commonly asked questions and references specific topics and areas of concern.

Families in Crisis, www.familiesincrisis.org is one of the few organizations nationally dedicated to meeting the critical needs of offenders and their families.  They provide comprehensive services to help family members who may be facing a long separation stay connected.

Transportation services for family members and friends in Connecticut who want to visit an inmate are available through Family and Children's Aid, Families in Crisis, Healthy Home Health Child, Connecticut Prison Shuttle and DOMUS.
